About the Festival
CINANIMA has the approval of the International Film Association – ASIFA - and is officially considered by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences as one of the qualifying festivals for the Oscar nomination for the Best Animation Short Film.
Call for entries (Archive)
This year we celebrate our 42nd anniversary and we are so much delighted to announce that entries are open for the 2018’s Edition. We would like to remind that CINANIMA is an OSCAR® qualifying Festival.
Works concluded after the 1st of January 2017 and which have not been presented for selection in previous editions of the Festival are eligible.
1.INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION SHORT FILMS
In this International Competition there are the following categories:
• A – up to five minutes;
• B – more than 5 up to 24 minutes;
• C – more than 24 up t0 50 minutes;
• D – Commissioned Films – Commercials and Information;
• E – Animated Documentary.
Note: All those applying to International Competition – Short Films can only choose one category.
2. INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FEATURE FILMS
Eligible: Films with more than 50 minutes.
3. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FILMS COMPETITION
Films directed by students or graduates and produced at Art Schools, Film Schools or Training Schools for Animated Film, under 50
minutes long are admitted. This Prize has the designation of Gaston Roch Award.
4. NATIONAL COMPETITION In the National Competitive Section there are the following categories:
• ANTÓNIO GAIO Award – Best Film in the National Competition;
• BEST YOUNG PORTUGUESE DIRECTOR Award:
− Films directed by Children and Youngsters (until the age of 18);
− First films directed by Young Directors (more than 18 up to 30 years old).
A film is considered to be Portuguese when it has been directed by a Portuguese citizen or whose production is entirely Portuguese.
Portuguese films can only enter one of the National Competitive categori es (António Gaio Award or Young Portuguese Director Award) and must clearly mention in the Entry Form which category they are apply
1. INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION – SHORT FILMS
The International Jury – Short Films has the following prizes at their disposal:
a) Grand Prize CINANIMA 2018 – Short Films | Espinho City Award
Granted by the International Jury to the Best Short Film in CINANIMA 2018;
b) Jury’s Special Award
Granted by the International Jury according to their own criteria;
c) Awards for the Best Short Film in each category of the Short Films International Competition.
• The prize for the Best Short Film – Film up to 5 minutes - is named ALVES COSTA AWARD.
d)The International Jury is also free to award Special Mentions in each one of these categories.
2. INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION – FEATURE FILMS
The International Jury for Feature Films has the following prize at their disposal:
a) Grand Prize CINANIMA 2018 - Feature Films / Granted by the International Jury to the Best Feature Film in CINANIMA 2018.
3.INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FILMS COMPETITION
The International Jury for Graduation and/ or School Films has the following prize at their disposal:
a)Grand Prize CINANIMA 2018 – International Student Films Competition
Granted by the International Jury to the Best Student Film.
4. NATIONAL COMPETITION
a) ANTÓNIO GAIO Award – Best Film in National Competition;
b) YOUNG PORTUGUESE DIRECTOR Award.
5. AUDIENCE AWARD
The audience of the Festival attributes, through vote, the Prize to their favourite film from among those screened in the three
CINANIMA– INTERNATIONAL ANIMA TED FILM FESTIVAL OF ESPINHO – CINANIMA 2018 – 42nd edition- is organised by NASCENTE – Cooperative Soci ety with Cultural Purposes – and by the CITY HALL OF ESPINHO with the support of the MINISTRY OF CULTURE / ICA I.P. - INSTITUTE OF CINEMA AND AUDIOVISUAL and other public and private entities.
