The festival has become a prime scene for exhibiting new shorts and features, and several of the films picked out for and screened during the festival has gone on to see further success and awards internationally. This is the place to be if you are an aspiring filmmaker, an established heavyweight, or if you are from outside the region and interested in what it has to offer. This year’s festival program contains some most interesting seminar speakers, screenings and events. Over 120 films covering almost every major subject life has to offer will screen over these 4 days, and the highlights includes prominent profiles such as:

Latest guest confirmation, Eric Daniels, the technical wizard of Disney, whom enabled Disney to fuse its traditional drawings with the emerging computer technology at the turn of the century. His creation of certain technologies makes him both a pioneer and a living legend.

Ciaran Duffy, a key Background Artist for the highly praised and beautiful feature Song of the Sea. He has done 3D-modelling and texture design for several TV-series and is co-art director, layout supervisor and background supervisor for The Breadwinner, one of the features screened at the festival.

Roze Stiebra, a pioneer in Latvian animation and this year’s Guest of Honor. She has made an impressive contribution to Latvian and Baltic animation through her career, both through her films and in her work for furthering and improving the conditions of the Latvian animation and its educational institutions.

He has also art directed the Emmy Award winning VR experience Henry. Goro will present his work and VR projects and is also part of the portfolio panel. Character Designer Carter Goodrich has been responsible for some of the most memorable characters in modern animation, working for DreamWorks, with films such as Shrek, Ice Age, Monsters Inc., Ratatouille and Despicable Me, among many others, to his name.

The Nordic-Baltic short film competition is the core of the festival with a program known for its artistic diversity both in style and topics, and it is often a subject for discussion due to the experimental visual styles of the featured films. This program coincides with the goals of the New Nordic Animation Forum, of which the Fredrikstad Animation Festival is the host. This is a forum for the animation industry where all the Nordic countries meet to learn, co-operate, discuss and debate the current situation and possible futures of the industry.

The confirmed speakers of the forum are:

Frank Mosvold from Norway, with a work in progress presentation of his feature about the TV heroine Ella Bella Bingo; the Danish production house Late Love Productions with producer Lana Tankosa Nikolic, and the Swedish director Christian Rytelinus will tell about his newest feature. From Finland Hanna and Kari from the production company MRP Matila Röhr Productions OY will showcase what they are up to.
