Una Furtiva Lagrima, Edmond Was A Donkey win Animasyros 5.0 awards

The Grand Prize of International Competition Section was given to the object animated (or, better, fish-animated) film Una Furtiva Lagrima by Carlo Vogele (2011, US).

Set to the music of Donizetti, Una Furtiva Lagrima is a requiem for a black bass who laments his pathetic fate, from his sale at the fishmarket to his final destination : the frying pan.

The competition jury (Patrick Smith, Eva Stefani, Marie-Margaux Tsakiri-Scanatovits, Jürgen Haas) awarded the film "for its simple and effective humor, as well as it's wonderfully appropriate context and technique"

The multi-awarded Edmond Was A Donkey (Franck Dion, France) received a Special Mention in the same category "for its powerful story telling, using an overall quiet and subtle design and rhythm".

In the student competition, Song E. Kim won the award for Bite of the tail , for "its flowing graphic style that effectively serves to tell a poetic and sometimes enigmatic story".

Special Mention was given to 366 Tage by Johannes Schiehsl (2011, DE)  for the depiction of "a distinct tension that exists in contemporary Austria".

A special jury Mention for a Greek animated film was reserved for Abeyance by Eleni Miltsi (Athens School of Fine Arts), for its "strong use of symbolism, and emotionally charged atmosphere".

Animasyros 5.0 took place from 20-23 September in Hermoupolis, Syros (Greece).
