Animafest Zagreb: Feature programme announced

The World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb 2013 is devoted (like all odd years) to feature-length original animated works.

The pastiche animated UK films A Liar's Autobiography: The Untrue Story of Monty Python's Graham Chapman [review]  competes for the Grand Prix award.

The equally autobiographical Tatsumi, about the famous Japanese manga cartoonist Yoshihiro Tatsumi, is also in the festival competitive programme, as well as another Japan entry (and the latest Mamoru Hosoda work), Wolf Children.

The César-awarded Ernest & Celestine' by Stéphane Aubier, Benjamin Renner and Vincent Patar is one of the French entries at Animafest, whereas Jean-François Laguionie's film The Painting [review] provides a visually challenging world to the characters inside a painting.

The new Italian Pinocchio by Enzo D'Alò, the Spanish Wrinkles by Ignacio Ferreras, the US entry Consuming Spirits (Chris Sullivan), and the animated documentary Approved for Adoption (Jung, Laurent Boileau) [review]  completes the competitive programme.

The World Panorama features Don Hertzfeld and his trilogy It's Such a Beautiful Day [review], the Colombian social comedy Fat, Bald, Short Man [review], the South Korean film King of Pigs (Sang-ho Yeon).

2 European films are also included in the Panorama: the Spanish thriller The Apostle (Fernando Cortizo), and the poetic dram The Day of the Crows by Jean-Cristophe Dessaint [review].

See the daily festival programme. Animafest, Zagreb takes place between 4-9 June, at Europa and Cineplexx Kaptol Centre cinemas.
