Created in 1998 and devoted to the search for new talent, the Cinéfondation section of Cannes Festival  selects fifteen to twenty short and medium-length films each year from film schools all over the world.

 

The 2014 selection consisted of 6 films (14 fiction films and 2 animation films) among the 1,631 submitted. The Bigger Picture by Daisy Jacobs (National Film and Television School, UK, 7') was one of the two animated shorts  to compete for the award, and won the third prize, jointly with the live-action film Lievito Madre by Fulvio Risuleo (Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Italy).

 It tells the story of two brothers, Richard and Nick, struggling to care for their elderly mother, who won't make it easy for them. (See her Don Justino de Neve short).

The second animation short which competed at Cannes Cinefondation was Home Sweet Home by Pierre Clenet, Alejandro Diaz, Romain Mavezet, and Stéphane Paccolat, all students of Supinfocom Arles, France.

The Bigger Picture will receive a prize of €7,500.
