CINANIMA 2014, Portugal: Call for entries

CINANIMA 2014 is launching call for submissions.

 

The 38th edition of CINANIMA International Animated Film Festival of Espinho will be held from 10 to 16 November 2014 in Espinho, Portugal.

 

UPDATE 01 July 2014: Already 800 films have been registerd at Cinanima, most of which in the category "More than 5 up to 24 minutes".

 

UK, Japan, Germany, USA, France are the countries with the most substantial number of works submitted. Nineteen of the fims submitted come from Portugal.

 

The festival consists of the following competitive categories:

1. International Competitive Section which includes short films and features (more than 50 minutes).

 

Within the framework of the short films, there are five sub-categories:

  • Up to 5 minutes;
  • From 5 up to 24 minutes;
  • From 24 up to 50 minutes;
  • Graduation and/or School Films;
  • Commissioned Films.

2. National Competitive Section

 

Within the framework of the above section, there are two sub-categories:

  • Best Film National Competition (Antonio Gaio Award);
  • Films directed by children and youngsters until the age of 18 and first films directed by young directors aged from 18 up to 30 years old (Best Young Portuguese Director Award).

3. Non-competitive Section

 

Within this framework, CINANIMA will launch Animated Mermaid, which is a non-competitive section with some films that have been submitted but not selected for competition, retrospectives and special screenings.

 

The festival accepts those films directed according to the definition of animation given by ASIFA: "The art of animation is the creation of moving images through the manipulation of all varieties of techniques apart from live action methods".

 

Those films must have been concluded after 1 January 2013 in order to be eligible.

 

Furthermore, films combining live action are accepted as long as animation represents 70% of the film.

 

Applicants must choose one of the above-mentioned categories to enter their films.

 

No entry fee is required. The submission deadline is 11 July 2014.
