Miss Hokusai, Beach Flags Win at BIAF 2015

biaf-logoThe 17th Bucheon International Animation Festival (former PIAF) in South Korea split its awards to Asian and European films.

Miss Hokushai, the latest feature from the director of Colourful, Keiichi Hara, won the Best Feature Award at the Festival.

The film is based on the Sarusuberi manga series, and details the life story of 19th century painteer Tetsuzo, and his much-neglected assistant: his daughter O-Ei.

Another story of female empowerment won the Best Short Film award. The French Sacrebleu-Folimage production Beach Flags by Sarah Saidan tells the story of a young Iranian lifeguard and her lifelong athletic dream.

Georges Schwizgebel's Erlking took home the Jury Special Prize for a short film. 

Another French production (Vivement Lundi, co-produced with the Belgian Beast Animation and the Swiss Nadasdy Film) is  the stop-motion TV series Dimitri in Ubuyu by Agnès Lecreux. The series won the Jury Special Prize for TV & Commissioned Film, and narrates the discovery of Africa by a small European bird, Dimitri, lost in the African savanne.
