dok-leipzig-logoThe 59th DOK Leipzig festival is open for short and feature-length animated films. Details.


Founded in 1955, DOK Leipzig is the oldest documentary festival in the world, but from its first edition on animated films were part of the programme which today extends into crossmedia art.


The Oscar-qualifying festival (short films favors an artistic approach is essential for the selection of multilayered works that reflect reality in its complexity and with radical subjectivity.


Since 2015, feature animation films are also a part of the Official Selection,  Last year, Damian Anca's The Magic Mountain won a Special Prize at the festival. 


The 2016 competitioin includes feature-length and short documentary and animated films as well as animated documentary of all lengths from 2015 and 2016, which have not been screened publicly before 01 October 2015.

  • International Competition Short Documentary and Animated Film (max. 40 min)
  • German Competition Long Documentary and Animated Film (min 41 min)
  • German Competition Short Documentary and Animated Film (max 40 min)
  • Next Masters Competition (min 41 min) International Competition Animated Documentary (all lengths)
  • International Programme Documentary and Animated Film, Kids DOK and Youth Programme included (Documentary and Animated Films for children) (all lengths)
  • DOK local (all lengths)
  • DOK Interactive
