WEIRD (ex-3D Wire) has News!

The 12th edition of WEIRD, International Animation, Video Games and New Media Market will be held in Segovia from September 28th to October 4th

The studio from Madrid, Mr. Klaus, designs a poster that manages to unite in a single character all the essence of the event.

The submission of projects has as deadline July 24th and adds two new modalities, comic and board games.

The 12th edition of WEIRD, the International Animation, Video Games and New Media Market presents its official poster. The work of the Mr. Klaus studio will mark the entire image of the event. Its director, Jose Luis Farias, highlights the result of the same that manages to “summarize in just one character what Weird is, both for the attendants and for us. We will call him Mr. Weird!”

The poster concentrates the essence of this event that aims to be a point of dialogue and exchange between creators, producers, communication channels, professionals in the sector and future talents. Along with the colorful main character of the design, various animated cubes appear; emblems of this forum from its origins, in addition to being its iconic trophies.

The appointment has a new name from this year: Weird (previously known as 3D Wire). An evolution that broadens its horizons; with the focus on animation, video games and new media, it now opens its doors to new sectors such as board games or comics in order to respond to the reality of the sector. A new name that welcomes new proposals, projects and IPs, generating a meeting point and thermometer of future trends for both professional and amateur audiences.

Open call for projects

The 12th edition of Weird, International Animation, Video Games and New Media Market, officially opens its calls for projects. The contest will receive until July 24th projects in five different sections: animation and video games, transmedia, webseries, board games and comics.

The call for animation and video game projects is directed one more year as a cultural bridge, thanks to its Portuguese-Spanish scope. For its part, the European transmedia projects category continues to be a great continental benchmark for new trends, while the international section on animation webseries keeps Átomo Network as its main collaborator. This year there are two new calls aimed to Europe, board game and comic projects. In addition, RTVE, Movistar + and the Annecy Festival continue as collaborators, granting various recognitions such as the Movistar + Short Film Project Award, the RTVE Awards for the Most Innovative Video Game and VR Video Game and the Annecy-MIFA Award for Best Young Creator Series Project.

The deadline for the five calls is July 24th.

On the other hand, the submission for short films and music videos remains open until June 25th. The submitted works may become part of the Weird Catalog (with about 200 works, together with contact details to facilitate their distribution and sale) or be selected at the Weird Festival - International Animation Short Films Festival, which in its eighth edition will again have two official competition sections: national and international.
