21 animation features (out of 130 features submitted) were selected for this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival (8-14 June 2025).

Sylvain Chomet (The Triplets of Belleville, The Illusionist) makes his comeback with the biography of French author and playwright Marcel Pagnol, 'A Magnificent Life'.  Unlike his two other acclaimed animation features, the film (which will premiere at Cannes 2025) will also feature dialogue.

Another French film (but on the experimental side) is Momoko Seto's 'Dandelion's Odyssey'. Momoko Seto is known for her meticulous, arthouse work and her mixture of different techniques in an environment that comes alive (Planet Σ, Planet Z).

Canadian Félix Dufour-Laperrière (Archipel) returns to Annecy Festival with 'Death Does not Exist' and its official competition. As described, "the film plunges us into the torments of a young woman haunted by guilt following an attack that went wrong."

The 70-minute stop-motion film "Olivia and the Invisible Earthquakes" by Irene Iborra explores the issue of housing, a contemporary challenge that is here given its cinematic animation treatment.

The Contrechamp competition has some interesting gems; we find here the Berlinale-premiered 'Tales from the Magic Garden' stop-motion anthology

We also see the Rotterdam-premiered, 'The Great History of Western Philosophy' by Aria Covamonas (Mexico), a dadaist retelling of Western Philosophy.

'The Square' by Bo-Sol Kim (South Korea) tells the forbidden love story between a Swedish diplomat and a young North Korean woman. And the Brazilian 'Nimuendajú' by Tania Anaya tells the story of Curt Unckle, the German ethnologist and writer christened Nimuendajú by the Guarani people in 1906.
