
Children of the Sea Director Ayumu Watanabe to Design 2021 BIAF Poster and Trailer

Ayumu Watanabe, the renowned Japanese director who directed “Children of the Sea” will create the 23rd Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF2021) poster & trailer.
The 2020 Bucheon International Animation Festival winner, Ayumu Watanabe, will be behind the new 2021 BIAF festival identity. Ayumu Watanabe won Best Feature Film for its Children of the Sea directed film
The film that depicts the connections between humanity and nature, with a mesmerizing imagery of aquatic life and cosmic mystery, now that humanity is approaching a dead-end while abusing thenature, so the BIAF2020 Grand Prize goes to “Children of the Sea”. - BIAF 2020 Jury President, Anca Damian.
Ruka, a lonely girl, is depicted in a delicate, gentle rhythm. On the contrary, the vast world that contains the ocean, the sky and space, moves toward a wild, avant-garde climax and conclusion.
Ruka gets tired of the little events with her handball team and her alcoholic mother. She visits the aquarium where she used to go when she was young. There she meets Umi, who swims freely in the water. After she meets the brothers Umi and Sora, they spend a fun summer together.
“Children of the Sea” presents a metaphorical illustration of human birth and death by using diverse elements such as water, womb, motherhood and children. The big waves, crashing sounds and shining stars create a splendid and explosive climax and ending in a memorable style.
BIAF2021 will be held at the same routine 22-26 October, 2021 at Bucheon, just outside Seoul, South Korea.
