Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio: First Trailer

Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio: First Trailer

Jiminy Cricket has a new look and voice (via Ewan McGregor) in Guillermo Del Toro's stop-motion musical version of Pinocchio, based on the classic Carlo Collodi tale. The long-gestating project has now found a Netflix home, and is set during the rise of Fascism in Mussolini's Italy, in which Pinocchio needs to satisfy his parents' own expectations.

In the teaser, Jiminy Cricket (admittedly more horrifying and robot-like than the Disney classic version) informs us that he is to live in Pinocchio's own heart.

Here's the first teaser for Pinocchio:

Gregory Mann will play the title role. Apart from Ewan McGregor's Jiminy Cricket, avid Bradle will voice Geppetto, while Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman also participate.

We all love and practice animation with great passion and believe it to be the ideal medium to retell this classic story in a completely new way - Guillermo Del Toro

Alexandre Desplat is the musical and songs composer (lyrics by del Toro and Katz). Gris Grimly created the original design for the Pinocchio character. The film’s puppets are being built by Mackinnon and Saunders.
