César Awards 2024 Poster Pays Tribute to Animation and Michel Ocelot

Contes de la nuit animation still

The 2024 French César awards poster has an unexpected, but welcome animation tone. The legendary Michel Ocelot (Kirikou and the Sorceress, Dilili In Paris) is given a hommage by making the whole ceremony poster a re-working of his animation short 'La Belle Fille et le Sorcier' (1992) -in the 'Tales of the Night' anthology.

Michel Ocelot is a two-time César winner, for his 1983 short 'The Legend of the Poor Hunchback (La Légende du pauvre bossu)', as well as in 2019 for his animation feature' Dilili In Paris'.

The French Academy regards Ocelot as "an emblematic figure in animation", who "uses his art and poetry in a unique cinematic style, to amaze us and transport us into dreamlike universes, through narrative forms distilling messages of peace and tolerance".

The 2024 César poster is inspired by his 1992 anthology 'Tales of the Night' (Les Contes de la Nuit) and the story 'La Belle Fille et la Sorcier' of that anthology.
